Patrice Merrin, based in Toronto, offers counsel in government relations and public affairs in global political, regulatory and compliance environments. During her tenure as a senior executive in the mining and energy sectors from 1994 to 2006, notably as President and CEO of Luscar Ltd., Canada’s largest thermal coal producer and as Executive Vice-President and Chief Operating Officer of diversified base metals corporation Sherritt International, she was recognized as a strategic, innovative leader and was named one of Alberta’s Most Influential People by Alberta Venture magazine in July 2006. Ms. Merrin provided counsel to the Ministry of Solid Minerals Development in Abuja, Nigeria in a 2006 World Bank-financed project, led by AMG and APCO Worldwide, designed to attract foreign direct investment to Nigeria’s mining sector. Ms. Merrin is a Director of CML Healthcare Income Fund, Enssolutions Group Inc. and Climate Change and Emissions Management Corporation, Alberta. Ms. Merrin has been an invited speaker and moderator on North American energy issues, such as those addressed by the Cross-Border Energy Forum of the Woodrow Wilson Institute in Washington. She was a federal appointee to the National Round Table on the Environment and the Economy and served on the Government of Canada’s Natural Resources Ministry’s Expert Panel on Energy Science and Technology. She chairs the Council on Canadian-American Relations, New York, and is a Director of the Toronto Public Library Foundation. She has been a Director of numerous non-profit organizations, including the Board of Trustees of her alma mater, Queen’s University, the Edmonton Symphony, and the Canadian Stage Company. She completed the Advanced Management Programme at INSEAD in Fontainebleau, France. |
